Stratford-upon-Avon College has become the UK representative for AMFORHT - the World Association for Hospitality and Tourism Education and Training.

AMFORHT is the only organisation that links training and education services for the hospitality and tourism trade across the globe. It was set up in Nice in 1969 with the main aim “to define, develop, promote and adapt” world tourism training to the need and evolution of the tourism industry. A new administrative council was set up earlier this year giving the association an updated strategy and organisation with individual country representatives.

AMFORHT’s vision and mission focuses on three key areas ensuring it serves students, employees of the hospitality and tourism industry and industry members. The new strategy aims to boost and facilitate relationships between industry members, providing a forum for the exchanging of ideas, experiences and best practice. AMFORHT is also becoming a political force for national and international proposals.

As the UK’s representative the College will be bring to Stratford-upon-Avon a major opportunity to showcase the town on the international stage, focussing on the tourism offer and providing a boost to our local tourism, restaurant and hotel trades.

Martin Penny, Principal commented, “We were delighted to be approached to become the UK representative for AMFORHT. Stratford-upon-Avon College was the first college in the country to receive the Training Quality Standard with excellence in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism which highlights our outstanding reputation in this field. This is also a major boost for our new joint venture with the District Council to provide a new and vibrant Tourist Information Centre for the town”.
